The females are between 64 and 70 cm tall and the males between 66 and 74 cm. The weight varies between 35 and 45 kg for females and between 40 and 50 kg for males.
The Rafeiro do Alentejo is a large, strong and rustic looking mollusc.
The head resembles that of a bear, with strong and muscular cheeks. The nose is broad and dark.
The eyes are dark and soft looking and the ears triangular and hanging. The neck is short and strong.
The body of Rafeiro do Alentejo is longer than high. The limbs are muscular and have a softer coat. The tail is long and curved at the end.
